During the year of pathway program I think doing case study experiences in Confucius Institution US Center is critical for me. Last semester professor Reeder had a assignment for us–doing a case study in an American arts organization. We needed to investigate the mission, governance, finance, vision and program of the arts organizations by interviewing some which work in the arts organization and Internet. Then analyze the challenge that the arts organization need to overcome. Finally, we needed to give our suggestion which helped the arts organization overcome the challenge. During accomplishing the assignment I acquire plenty of knowledge which I cannot learn from books.

Firstly, I have more ideas for achieving my goal which focus on developing Chinese traditional instrument in America in the future. When I interviewed with professor Gao first time. He inspired me when I talked with him. First time I talked with him, he not only talk with me about my future goal but also tell me how to acquire the statue of 501(c)3 for an arts organization. After talking with him I knew I should always focus on my filed which was related with Chinese traditional instrument. He encouraged that I might be acquire amazing achievement if I always insisted my goal in the future.

Secondly, I know the arts organization how to operate an event when they have event. I went to Confucius Institution US Center second time as an volunteer. CIUS Center had an event about American, Chinese Indian culture engagement . By the event I know arts organization needed to send the invitation to those scholars, then prepare some snacks in the event. In addition, I know event is a useful activities for build relationship and marketing with those scholars.

Finally, I know connecting the knowledge in the textbook with practices. During doing case study I know that it is necessary to accomplish two years form 990 for acquiring statue of 501 (c) 3.

In addition, I know relationship between board of an arts organizations and executive director is significant for development of an arts organizations, and executive director is responsible to tell the board the mission and operation of arts organization.

The experience in the pathway program is really helpful for me. Additionally, I think pathways not only help me build relationships with my professor but also adapting graduate study before progressing graduate study. Ever time conversation with my professor I always learn a lot. Every of my professors is nice. They also give me lots of opportunities to build my networking. After studying in the pathway I believe that I can adapt graduate study better.
